Welcome to Many Rooms

We’re an initiative of City on a Hill church, that is an outreach with and for Melbourne’s homeless. We currently operate one room – the Kitchen – a drop in centre that is open every Saturday between noon and 3pm. Our dream is to open more rooms in the future, hence our name Many Rooms.

What makes us unique is that we are not an outreach to homeless people. We are an outreach with homeless people. We want to to journey beside them. We want them to be part of our organisation, to help us identify how we can assist them on their journey. In the process, we find that they are teaching us as well. Their opinion and input matters, and affects the decisions we make. In effect, we want to blur the distinction between staff/volunteer and participant.

Another distinctive element is that we are open when everyone else is shut. There are very few services available to the homeless community on a weekend, which is why we targeted it with our first room. This is part of who we want to be – not duplicating existing services, but providing assistance where there is currently little or none available.

God bless,
