Many Rooms

It’s been a little over a month since our last update on Many Rooms and The Kitchen. Time for some news!

What’s been happening?
Well, we’ve been open now for more than a month of Saturdays, and from our early humble beginnings where we served 3 lovely participants in the first week, the last three weeks has seen around 30 participants coming along, with a very high number of returning visitors. This is great on two counts – that we’re already getting the word out to a good number of those in need, and that so many of them are returning. Many with extremely positive comments and thanks.

One of our participants wrote a few weeks back in thanks, ”The meals put on at Buncle St. are superb. The Christian kindness is most welcome. Keep up the good work’s for as long as possible for you are much needed in the

area.” .. Which is really encouraging and an answer to prayer.

What’s in store?
Christmas of course! Due to the venue closing over the Christmas — New Year period, we have had to adapt our service at The Kitchen a little. We’ll be serving a BBQ outside the venue from 12pm on both Boxing Day (this Saturday) and Jan 2 (the following Saturday).

Gifts!
And what is a celebration of the birth of Jesus without giving gifts? Due to the generosity of the residents of the Docklands ‘towers’ (apartment buildings there) and the members of City on a Hill, who have been stock-piling gifts for weeks, we hope to distribute gifts to participants on both ‘BBQ’ days. This is a great blessing that we’re sure will bring a smile to the faces of our participants.

After much prayer, months of planning and a phenomenal response from our volunteers and supporters, Many Rooms‘ first ‘room’, The Kitchen will open this weekend.

We’re really excited to see the service finally getting started.

Please help to get the word out to any men and women of Melbourne who will appreciate a hearty Saturday lunch. If you have picked up one of our invitation business cards, then please hand it out this week to someone in the city who you think might want to come along.

Don’t have a card? .. Invite them anyway — you might even like to print off a few of the venue sheets (PDF) we’ve made for the purpose.

Thanks again for your support and God-willing, we’ll report soon on our first meal served!

We prayed together, heard about the vision and aims of Many Rooms and The Kitchen, we met each other and of course, we ate some great food. Thanks to the caterers as well for a top effort in our little Kitchen! They’ve set a high bar for us to follow (we aim to try)!

Sharing the buzz at the launch

We’ve had lots of really positive feedback on the night, and were thrilled that we now have over 60 people interested in volunteering at our first ‘room’, The Kitchen. Training for new volunteers will happen over the next couple of weeks. If you’ve already filled out a vols form (either web, or paper) then you would have already heard from Candice, our vols manager (let us know if you haven’t).

So .. time to get out the pin-stripe, dust off the top-hat, and untangle the braces to get along to this great event!!

A Moment in Morocco Charity Ball

The ball is being held in Sumac, Central Pier of Docklands on Friday 30th October from 8-12pm. The evening will include substantial canapes throughout the evening, live entertainment and DJ, lots of dancing and a silent auction fundraising for Many Rooms.
